Electrostatics of two charged cylinders

The electrostatic potential of two parallel charged conducting cylinders is determined, for arbitrary radii and charges per unit length on the cylinders. The forces acting between the cylinders are calculated, as are the charge distributions on the cylinders. When the cylinders carry unlike charges the forces between them are always attractive. When the cylinders carry like charges, the force acting between them can be attractive at close range, as has been shown for charged spheres.
