Information systems in industry

This work analyzes the role of the manufacturing information systems its main characteristics, and its tendencies in accordance of the "state of the art" technology and the needs of the industrial enterprises today. This work characterizes the main functions and features of the different levels of the manufacturing information systems, mainly the role of the SCADA (Supervisory control and data acquisition) systems and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems. In response to the integration needs between both levels and the today needs of the operation area in manufacturing enterprises, the main functions of MES (manufacturing execution systems) systems are described. Finally we explain the main efforts in standardization in the different levels with emphasizes in the advantages of the open systems and in which characteristics must they have to be integrated.
