Vessels representation in 2D and 3D angiograms

Thin network extraction from two (2D) and three (3D) dimensional images is of major importance in medical vascular imaging for diagnostic, therapy planning and neurosurgery. In this paper, we develop a framework for automatic vascular network extraction from 2D and 3D images. The approach consists in treating the image as a surface. It is shown that the crest points of this surface correspond to the center-line of the thin network in the image. A compact representation of the detected network will enable further manipulation and processing. Promising results are shown real vascular images.
