Synthesis and electrorheological characteristics of polyaniline@attapulgite nanoparticles via Pickering emulsion polymerization

摘要
As a candidate polymer/inorganic composite material for an electrorheological (ER) fluid, polyaniline (PANI)@attapulgite (ATP) composite particles were synthesized by a Pickering emulsion polymerization technique using ATP particles as a solid stabilizer. An examination of the surface morphology revealed rod-shaped PANI nanoparticles wrapped with ATP clay particles, confirming their Pickering emulsion stabilizer characteristics. The ER performance of PANI@ATP nanoparticles dispersed in silicone oil were examined under various electric field strengths. The results showed that the PANI@ATP particle-based ER fluid exhibited typical ER behavior, in which the shear stress curve fitted the Cho-Choi-Jhon model of the rheological equation of state quite well.
