摘要
This paper examines the structure in which the verb fio appears with the dative case (D), a structure to which little attention has been paid; prior contributions reveal some confusion and uncertainty, and some conflicting positions are appreciated. The specific aim of this paper is to establish the semantic and syntactic features that presents the fio plus D construction in order to determine the status of such D. For this purpose, and after considerating an overview of the research developed so far, a corpus analysis is made; this analysis includes, among other criteria of analysis, (i) the study of the lexical features of the nominal participants implied in the different structures, according to the varied verbal semantics of the predicate under study, and (ii) the comparative analysis of such structures with a) Latin verbs of similar category in terms of their fundamental characteristics, and b) related verbal predicates in languages other than Latin.
