摘要
Background: Transgender individuals face significant health disparities which can be largely attributed to lack of provider education on healthcare issues faced by this population. Methods: A quality improvement project using a pre-posttest design was used to evaluate whether anesthesia providers' knowledge and confidence in providing care for transgender patients increased following a simulated preoperative interview with a transgender patient. Results: There were statistically significant improvements in post-implementation mean scores related to knowledge, confidence, and awareness of health disparities when compared to pre-implementation scores. Conclusions: Simulation improved anesthesia providers' knowledge and confidence in caring for trans-gender patients perioperatively.
