摘要
A binder for cement-and silica-free castables based on aqueous dispersion of nanostructured alumina powder is described. The binder, VP Disp W 450 XC, is characterized by high solids content of 50 wt. %, long-term stability at neutral to alkaline pH values and only trace amounts of sodium, which improves its use in high temperature applications. We show that Hot Crushing Strength of refractory alumina castables achieved with this binder is approx. 40 % higher than HCC of alumina castables made with the sodium-containing binder. We demonstrate that sodium-free stabilization of the binder does not lead to degradation of other mechanical properties of the castables.
