Static recrystallization of austenite in a microalloyed forging steel

Austenite recrystallization kinetics in a microalloyed forging steel were determined by double-hit compression tests using a cam plastometer. The fraction recrystallized was determined from the areas under flow curves, and compared with microstructures observed in quenched samples. The effects of carbonitride precipitates were determined by carbon replica TEM. The static recrystallization kinetics fit the J.M.A.K equation well when there is little precipitation. Recrystallization is completely retarded under conditions of maximum precipitation of (Ti,V)(C,N).
