Experimental study on the new round-off truing method utilizing the circular motion of a CNC machine and an abrasive stick

摘要
A new round-off truing method has been proposed by the authors in the previous paper. In this method, a grinding wheel is circularly moved around an abrasive stick using the circular interpolation of a CNC machine. Through the consecutive circular motions and down feeds, their profiles are formed into a round shape. In this paper, appropriateness of this method is experimentally investigated by using the CNC surface grinding machine. Grinding wheels can be precisely round-off trued by the proposed method regardless of the combination of abrasive materials and size of the stick. Necessary number of truing passes to obtain the settled radius changes with combination of the stick and the wheel -material and size of the stick.
