Determination of the order parameters of nematic liquid crystals by infrared spectroscopy

摘要：

We determined the order parameters of nematic liquid crystals by using infrared linear dichroism measurements. The infrared band utilized in this study was due to the carbon-carbon in plane stretching vibration of the benzene ring at 1600 similar to 1500 cm(-1). The validity of the method was confirmed by comparing the results with those from two different modes, the C = N stretching mode and the pi --> pi* transition mode.
