'And they had brick instead of stones, and pitch instead of mortar.. And they said: Come, let us make a city...' (Genesis 11,14). From the Old Testament to Asphalt jungle, the material of our streets seems to express what is trivial, tough and unfeeling. Yet this prosaic reality is also a vector of modernity. A close-up at street level.
