Initial results in an approximate optimal capacitor placement for radial distribution systems

Analytical results of the capacitor placement for radial distribution power systems, are presented in this paper. Based on the analytical results, a simple approximate optimal capacitor placement algorithm is proposed. Unlike existing optimal capacitor placement algorithms, the proposed algorithm formulates the optimal capacitor placement problem in a simple form instead of an integer nonlinear programming problem. The proposed algorithm guarantees to approximately reach the global optimal solution, with a small number of calculations. Simulation results of the proposed algorithm on 10 bus system and 30 bus system are presented in this paper.
