A Novel Distributed Antenna on Package, Substrate, and Shell for Millimeter-Wave Applications

摘要
This paper proposes a novel antenna architecture that distributes the antenna structure on different parts of a wireless device. With this arrangement, the RF energy interconnection between different parts becomes the internal coupling of an antenna, which can improve the RF radiation efficiency and system integration, and realize flexible design to meet various requirements. To demonstrate the idea, an end-fire polarization convert antenna with its structure distributed on package, substrate, and device shell working at the 5G millimeter-wave band (24.25-29.5GHz) is given. The antenna contains three parts: the exciting element in the package, a periodic director on the substrate, and a polarization converter on the device shell. The measurement shows that the antenna has good performance and flexibility, proving the advantage of the distributed antenna architecture.
