2-(4-Bromophenyl)-1-(methylsulfanyl)naphtho[2,1-b]furan

The title compound, C19H13BrOS, was synthesized by the Lewis acid-catalyzed reaction of 2-naphthol with 40-bromo-2chloro- 2-(methylsulfanyl) acetophenone. The methyl group lies above the naphthofuran ring system and the benzene ring is rotated out of the naphthofuran plane with a dihedral angle of 42.29 (8)degrees. The crystal structure is stabilized by aromatic pi-pi stacking between the furan and benzene rings, C-H center dot center dot center dot O and C-H center dot center dot center dot Br hydrogen bonds, and a Br center dot center dot center dot Br interaction.
