Nowadays, the environmental engineering problems have become very diverse and complex. For this reason, it is necessary to define the new scope of environmental engineering to cope with environmental problems and sustainable development concerns, especially in developing countries. This paper defines several of the basic components of the environmental engineering profession and the educational process needed to produce qualified environmental engineers
