On the geometrical representation of traceless tensors

摘要：

It is shown that traceless tensors as used in the interpretation of hyperfine structures in rotational spectra can be represented by hyperboloids. This is in analogy to the inertial moment ellipsoids. The potential surface surrounding a quadrupole nucleus can be mapped.
