For the determination of phenylephrine hydrochloride (PHP) in pharmaceutical formulations, a flexible and easy spectrophotometric system has been proposed. The oxidation strategy consisted in put phenylephrine with an excess quantity of N-bromo succinamide (NBS) in an acidic medium and then estimating the amount of unreacted and estimation the amount of unreacted NBS by methyl blue at. 580 nm. The quantity of NBS interacting with the colorant is equivalent to the amount of the drug with a better molar absorption of 6.2792 x 103 L. mol-1 cm-1. The bear law scale was 3-45 mu g.mL-1, as well as Sandells sensitivity index of 0.02 g.cm-2. and also the average relative error of the concentration 100.531 % and the relative standard deviation 1.360 %. The method was successfully applied in its quantifying to the determination of drug in pharmaceutical formulations.
