Crops Grow Selection in Arable Land near Metropolitan Suburbs - Rural Household Survey from Pinggu District, Beijing City

Based on the basis of 106 household survey data available in 2003, this article conducts an analysis on the cost-benefit of agricultural land use in Pinggu. The results of the economic analysis show that the order of the net benefit per ha is as follows: vegetable field>orchard field>cereal field, and the net benefit rate is: vegetable field>cereal field>orchard field. However, the results of the agricultural household's financial analysis are quite different from the above statistics, which shows that the order of net benefit per ha gets as follows: orchard field>vegetable field>cereal field, and the order of net benefit rate becomes: cereal field>vegetable land>orchard field. Through the above analysis the author holds that though the former, the economic analysis, can reflect the real economic benefits of the farmers' agricultural land use, the latter financial analysis can provide a reliable source for farmers to make their economic decisions. It could better explain the mechanism and behavior of the agricultural households' land use choices. At last the guidance & suggestions are presented for the land use choices of various agricultural households near metropolitan suburbs.
