摘要
Creatinine is a gold standard indicator for muscle metabolism and renal health. Creatinine detection and quantification are still performed in laboratory setups, and portability for possible point-of-care applications remains a challenge. Thiswork reports on the development of a portable and cost-effective chemiluminescence (CL) quantification platform. The developed portable platformemploys a novelCL based detection system successfully adapted for detection and quantification of creatinine in blood serum. The platform employs a high-quality camera sensor in conjunction with a raspberry-pi single board computer. The system proved to be effective in capturing CL signals and analyzing them for relative variations in CL signals using a python-based program. Detection of creatinine, a primary indicator of renal health, was achieved using a developed competitive reaction between luminol, hydrogen peroxide and creatinine in the presence of cobalt (II) ions. Creatinine detection in the range 40 mu M to 160 mu M was established with a limit of detection of 23.10 mu M, enabling serum creatine detection at values lower than the nominal range. Analysis of human serum was carried out with the developed system for understanding possible application in clinical settings. Improvements are being incorporated in the developed platform to demonstrate ultra-low light signal detection for bio-luminescence applications.
