Effect of aryloxo ligand for ethylene polymerization by (arylimido)(aryloxo)vanadium(V) complexes-MAO catalyst systems: attempt for polymerization of styrene

摘要
Ethylene polymerization using (arylimido)(aryloxo)vanadium complexes of type, VCl2(N-2,6-Me2C6H3)(OAr) [OAr = O-2,6-Me2C6H3 (1), O-2,6-(i) Pr-2 C6H3 (2), O-2,6-Ph2C6H3 (3), and O-2,6-Bu-i(2)-4-MeC6H2 (4)], has been explored in the presence of MAO. The substituents on the aryloxo ligand were found to play an essential role for the catalytic activity, and effect of both Al/V molar ratio and temperature for the activity depended upon the substituents. High catalytic activity was observed especially at low temperature of 0 degreesC when 3 was used as the catalyst precursor, whereas 1 showed the highest activity at 25 degreesC. However, 2-MAO catalyst showed extremely low activity for styrene polymerization. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
