摘要：
A review on the phenomenon of stimulated Raman scattering of intense laser beams in nonlinear optical media is presented. Emphasis is put on explaining the basic physics of the phenomenon while minimizing the mathematics. As a special case the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in fourth state of matter i.e., plasma, is also discussed.
