Pathogenetic mechanisms and therapeutic options of diabetic neuropathy

摘要：
Numerous experimental trials point to a multifactorial pathogenesis of diabetic neuropathy which effects not only the peripheral nerves hat also the autonomic nervous system. Nearly every second diabetic patient develops this complication with increasing duration of the disease. Unanimously, hyperglycemia is the initiating factor. The current pathogenetic mechanisms are briefly explained. Most data have been generated in the diabetic rot model. Besides the only causal treatment - near normoglycemia - therapies based on the different pathogenetic mechanisms as well as symptomatic pain treatment ore discussed.
