摘要
Artichoke production in Spain is centred in the Mediterranean regions of the south east. The province of Murcia is the major producer of artichoke in Spain with more than 7,000 ha producing around 120,000 t per year. Production is concentrated in the period from autumn to spring, the traditional Blanca de Tudela (BT), obtained by vegetative reproduction, being the most commonly used cultivar. However, due to certain productive and phytosanitary problems, new alternatives are being sought. Among these, new cultivars obtained from seed are gaining in popularity, since they are well adapted for industrial use and produce high yields of artichokes for fresh consumption. Besides a revision of the antecedents of BT cultivation to explain why the present situation has arisen, we offer a series of suggestions for cultivating the new plant material whose good agronomical behaviour may help to improve the economical welfare of the artichoke grower.
