摘要
The Romanesque and early Gothic fabric of the Augustinian priory of Worksop, or Radford, is discussed in relation to near-contemporary works in the East Midlands and north of England. The Romanesque crossing, transepts and eastern bay of the nave, commenced in the 1130s, were executed by a master mason from nearby Southwell Minster. The nave, here dated c. 1160-80, is allied to French-inspired early Gothic in the north including Roche Abbey and Archbishop Roger of Pont l'Eveque's eastern arm at York Minster. The Lady Chapel, c. 1249-64, is related to the eastern chapel of Southwell Minster. Problems associated with the form of the lost eastern arm are discussed with special reference to Augustinian churches.
