LIBRARIES IN DISTANCE EDUCATION: if the Consortium CEDERJ

This work analyses the performance and the services of libraries in distance education, as well as the students' demand for information services. The study was based on a research developed at the Centro de Educacao Superior a Distancia do Estado do Rio de Janeiro -CEDERJ. Data were collected about the EAD students' habits in seeking and using information. Their demand for library services, was also analyzed. Questionnaires were applied to students from three courses. Librarians of the pole and university libraries were interviewed about the services offered to the users. Some problems were pointed out, among them the lack of publicizing such services offered by these libraries and the scarce online interaction. Some initiatives and proposals are suggested as solutions.
