World steel statistics and EAF steelmaking

The main aspect of this report is to look at the latest facts and figures on steel production, and electric steelmaking in particular, both globally and in Europe, and to examine the latest data on scrap and scrap substitutes. So first, a reminder of world production of crude steel, the basic measure of steel industry performance, which in 2004 was up 9% on the year before and, in fact, production has now grown in each of the last six successive years. In 2004 production surpassed the 1 billion t threshold for the first time to reach a new record high, 1.05 billion t.
