Dynamics of stacked Josephson junctions

The fundamental dynamic behavior of two vertically-stacked Josephson junctions was numerically simulated using two strongly-coupled sine-Gordon equations. Two different Swihart velocities due to the coupling between the two long Josephson junctions were observed. For an annular geometry, identical `clean' fluxon shapes corresponded to the in-phase fluxon locking in the two junctions. For the overlap geometry within an applied magnetic field, the locked fluxon steps overlapped with Fiske modes of the two different velocities in a complicated pattern.
