摘要：
The purpose of this study was to investigate concurrent issues and anticipated solutions for urban transformation in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and to settle planning guidelines delivered from the found results. In addition to previous studies about the historical development of urban planning of HCMC, this article also made the analysis of cultural characteristics and it was turned out that essential characters have existed in urban context and lifestyle of the citizens as well. As a result, this study analyzed existing problems for HCMC, one of the most populated cities in Vietnam, drew the specific characteristics of urban society, and found clues to urban planning and designing for the future. Finally, this paper also offers fundamental solutions for appropriate major factors of urban planning such as composition of rivers and layout of urban blocks for the target city.
