摘要
X-ray absorption spectroscopy in particular in the XANES version at the ligand L-edge - is a valuable tool in determining the oxidation numbers and electronic structure of transition metal ions in oxidic solids, supplementing EPR and optical spectroscopy. Examples with Co, Ni, Cu and Mn in various oxidation states are discussed. In particular changes in the bond covalency are sensitively imaged.
