摘要
We present a new approach for the reconstruction of the Earth's magnetic field intensity during the last 200,000 years based on Be-10 in deep-sea sediments. A simple box model that is able to describe boundary scavenging of Be-10 in the ocean is used to study the sensitivity of Be-10 to changes of water circulation and/or varying particle rain rates. The model is applied to separate transport and production signal in single Be-10 records. Vertical sediment accumulation rates are used as input values for the model calculations. The calculated scavenging factors are applied to correct the Be-10 records for boundary scavenging. The model corrected Be-10 based paleointensity record correlates well with other records from very different archives. (C) 2002 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
