摘要
The aim of the article is to present a reflection on the main effects of economic globaliza-tion on international migration during the twenty-first century, to give a systemic view in which the relationship with other demographic phenomena is contemplated (fertility, mortality, and especially longevity) as well as advances in levels of instruction, always taking into consideration the relationship with the territory. This reflection is also designed to highlight metaphors such as the "great replacement", which have hijacked the understand-ing of the phenomenon, giving it a framing conducive to extreme right-wing discourses. The specific objectives are to explain the plurality of profiles that has accompanied migra-tory growth during globalization, the role of the technological revolution in accelerating the mobilization and settlement of the immigrant population, and, finally, the fear of replacing the population. To end with, there is a commentary on the contribution that demography as a discipline can make to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
