Architectonic and diagnostic significance of hair cortex and medulla

摘要
Architectonic of hair and spines was studied in 345 mammalian species using scanning electron microscopy. A consistent terminology and system of hair and spine cortex and medulla is proposed. The significance of the cortex and medulla structural patterns for taxon identification and adaptation to environmental conditions are discussed.
