Synthesis of Ti-Fe and Ti-Al-Fe alloys from elementary powder mixtures

摘要
Chemical and structural homogenization is investigated upon synthesis of Ti-2.5 Fe and Ti-5 Al-2.5 Fe alloys using method of elemental powder blends. As proved, the possibility to synthesize nearly dense material with a simplest 'cold pressing-and-sintering' approach without a use of high-temperature deformation. Residual porosity of Ti-Fe alloys depends on kinetics of iron diffusion redistribution. To obtain low residual porosity, decrease in iron concentration to level excluding melting at the eutectic temperature is necessary. Aluminium as alpha stabilizer makes sintering essentially slower, because aluminium prevents iron penetration into areas where alpha-->beta-transformation does not occur. Synthesized homogeneous low-porous alloys have mechanical properties at the level of corresponding ingot materials.
