Unresolved issues: Equal pay for work of equal value

Previous research points to the under-valuing of working with people (production of services) when compared to working with machines and tools (production of goods). Further, the under-valuing of services (or "care") mirrors the near invisibility of unpaid care work - the work that mostly women do on an unpaid basis in their homes in the form of housework, care for children, older people and people with disabilities, and the like. This paper takes these earlier findings about occupational disparities in earnings a bit further using more recent data and a sharper and more unusual focus.
