Identification of magnetic anomalies for the reconstruction of isochrons along oceanic ridges is based on matching similar structural elements (peaks and troughs) of modeled and observed magnetic profiles across the ridge axis. A method of non-linear alignment of profiles is developed for automating identification of the magnetic anomalies. For the magnetic data grid from a high-resolution survey SARA (Segmentation Ancienne de la Ride Atlantique), application of our method to all the profiles forming the rows of the grid allows dating of the crust on the flanks of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between 28 degrees and 29 degrees N to the age of approximately 10 Ma.
