Experimental investigation on wire electrical discharge machining parameters for aluminium 6082 T6 alloy using Taguchi design

摘要
In the machining of conductive materials, Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) is broadly utilized when precision is of utmost importance. The desired parameters for machining are usually evaluated based on experience. The quantitative methods were constructed in optimizing machining operations with only one goal considerations, cost minimization or maximization of benefits etc. The primary focus of this work is to optimize the parameters of the Wire Electric Discharge Machine using Taguchi Design. Input parameters such as Pulse On Time (T-ON), Pulse Off Time (T-OFF), Current (I) were selected to determine the Machining Time (MT) results for Aluminum 6082 T6 alloy. Totally 9 (L9 OA) experiments were performed and optimal conditions of input parameters for the Machining Time (MT) were assessed. The Taguchi design is employed using MINITAB-18 statistical software to distinguish the level of significance and optimum combinations for the machining. (C) 2020 The Authors.
