In this work, a two-user Rayleigh-faded asymmetric interference channel, where the interfering transmitter has two antennas and the other terminals have single antenna, is considered. Two encoding strategies based on single-user (SU) codes and multi-user (MU) codes, and two decoding strategies based on interference ignorant and joint decoding are considered. The diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) which characterizes the trade-off between the diversity and multiplexing gains is selected as the performance metric. Moreover, the diversity gain region (DGR) of the this system is also characterized. The achievable DGRs with both SU and MU codes are derived. The SU codes are shown to achieve better diversity gain tradeoff between the receivers compared to the MU codes. Also, the achievable DMT at the interference-limited receiver is analyzed in detail.
