Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Athonite Dedicatory Inscriptions in Historical and Archaeological Context

The group of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine dedicatory inscriptions on Athos is the majority of the epigraphic material. In the paper are discussed some representative examples dated from the 10th until to the 16th century in order to underline some aspects of the dedicatory activity in the Byzantine era and in the early Ottoman period. The inscriptions under consideration will be incorporated in the historical framework, taking into account the written sources and the archaeological data.
