Study of the oil palm empty fruit bunch as fiber reinforcement on composite material

摘要
The aim for this research is to study the characteristics of oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) as a fiber reinforcement on natural composite. Two group samples used OPEFB with different type of resin which is epoxy and polyester regarding to different fiber volume fraction. Hardness test, impact test and water absorption test were used. Results shows that sample with 50% fiber content displayed the highest hardness and impact value while in water absorption, it also shows the lowest value for both resins. OPEFB behaved as a significant adhesion between the matrix and composite. As a conclusion, to make a better composite, OPEFB and resin matrix should be mixed equally for better characteristics.
