摘要
We investigate expected gravitational wave spectrum from coalescing supermassive black hole (SMBH) binaries resulting from mergers of host galaxies. When galaxies merge, the central SMBHs sink to the center of the new merged galaxy and they finally coalesce producing low-frequency gravitational waves (GWs). Using a semi-analytic model of galaxy and quasar formations, we estimate the SMBH coalescence rate and find that the characteristic strain amplitude of the expected GW background spectrum is h(c)(f) similar to 10(-16)(f/yr(-1))(-2/3) just below the detection limit from measurements of pulsar timing.
