The image of Portuguese language in the Portugal-Spain border: linguistic landscapes in the region of Valencia de Alcantara

Analysis of the linguistic landscape of Valencia de Alcantara and some towns bordering with Portugal on its region. Due to the contact with the portuguese language, the place subject of study is a zone of special interest from the sociolinguistic point of view. In this paper, we will analyse the portuguese spoken on the other side of the border, on the border towns between Spain and Portugal and the old portuguese spoken in Valencia de Alcantara during the Middle Ages. We propose a methodology adapted to this reality, much different from the methodology followed on other researche conducted on another spanish regions where two official languages coexists.
