摘要
The site of the City of Rio de Janeiro received the UNESCO's title of Cultural Landscape, according to criteria V and VI of its Operational Guidelines, with landscape construction being one of its important key components. The article aimed to identify the knowledge and landscape practices that collaborated in the construction of the Carioca Cultural Landscape. Based on the concept of 'habitus', the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu analyzed the system of landscaped spaces that characterizes the water edge of the Named Site. It was observed that this construction is the result of the active notion of landscape designers, as products of the history of the social field, and of the experiences accumulated in the course of their individual trajectories in relation to society and the environment, which contributed to the construction of a landscape culture. It is then argued that it is necessary to preserve the landscape value attributed by UNESCO, and to safeguard the knowledge generated by the practices that have contributed to consolidate the Carioca culture.
