Though laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the gold standard to treat uncomplicated cholecystolithiasis, minilaparotomy is shorter, without disadvantages of the carbon dioxide pneumoperitoneum. The aim of this study is the pre-operative, immediate and 24 hours post-operative evaluation of the respiratory and metabolic functions in 100 patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy and 70 patients undergoing minilaparotomy to compare the two methods. Laparoscopic procedures were performed with three approaches in 40 cases and classic four approaches in 60. The data were "t" student test analyzed and were significantly favourable, 24 hours after the operation, for patients undergoing laparoscopic procedure, indicating a better functional recovery as compared to those undergoing minilaparotomy.
