RELIGIOUS TERRORISM - A MAJOR THREAT TO INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

On one side, globalisation has brought remarkable benefits to the field of political and economic integration, to the development of technology, to the facilitation of access to culture, however, on the other side, it has led to growing poverty and insecurity, a widening gap between the rich and the poor, which has constituted a crucial factor in the extremely violent reappearance of religious terrorism. Typical of our times, religious terrorism does not represent a wholly new phenomenon, however in contemporary times it has gained unprecedented proportions, being the most dangerous form of terrorism and the most difficult to counteract due to the fanaticism of its agents, who are willing to give their lives for their cause, without regrets, out of their need to preserve their religious identity and because they believe that only in this way can they build a future. A lot has been written and discussed about terrorism, however we judge that debates on this topic can be endless taking into consideration that the terrorist threat constitutes an uncontestable reality in contemporary society.
