摘要
Mn-Ni-Al bronzes are subject to embrittlement, especially in slowly cooled, heavy sectioned castings with a Mn content over 13 wt-%. It has now been discovered that by adding Ti the brittle tendency of the alloys can be eliminated. Ti has a stabilising effect on the elements that cause embrittlement. An explanation of the metallurgical basis of this effect is given. The presence of Ti in the alloys makes it possible to increase the Mn content without precipitation of the brittle Mn (beta) phase. So a new Mn-Ni-Al bronze can be introduced containing relatively high Mn contents in combination with Ti, yielding a significant improvement to mechanical properties.
