Modelling the earth's magnetic field: Wavelet based and standard methods

摘要
The launch of the Orsted, CHAMP and SCA-C high-precision geomagnetic field satellites has invigorated efforts to understanding the Earth's magnetic field. These have been led by modelling efforts using classical spherical harmonic analysis (SHA). To overcome some shortcomings of this technique, we here introduce new tools for describing the Earth's magnetic field, based on the spherical wavelet transform.
