Effects of Health Consciousness on Medical Consumption Behavior of Rural Residents in Shandong Province

Objective: To study the influential factors of rural residents for medical consumption behavior, and provide reference for rural medical system reform. Methods: 2716 rural residents were chosen with stratified Multi-stage sampling method. Data was analyzed by Chi-square test and Logistic regression analysis. Results: The valid rate of all questionnaires was 96.25%. Medical health knowledge, household hygiene knowledge, labor hygiene knowledge, health awareness, health concerns, personal health responsibility, lifestyle, dietary structure and physical examination were statistically significant, these factors were correlated with medical decision and medical expenditure(p<0.05). Conclusion: Good health consciousness can promote active medical treatment and reduce medical expenditure. Health education promotes health consciousness of rural residents, social support reduces medical expenditure of rural patients.
