摘要
Thermomechanical pulping studies were conducted at a northern, spruce/fir and southern pine paper mill, each operating a low-intensity refiner line in parallel to a high-intensity line. Newsprint produced from the high-intensity pulps had similar physical and printing properties compared to the control samples however, energy consumption was reduced. A lower roughness was observed following calendering of paper produced from the higb-intenmty pulps. Differences in paper properties between the two wood furnishes are discussed.
