摘要
Most of the scientific computing software systems currently in use are stationary, meaning that during-the execution of a task a system stays in a given host until the entire task is completed. Mobile agents, however, are software programs that can be instructed to halt their execution on a given host, travel with the current state to other participating hosts across a network, continue execution there, and eventually return to their original host if necessary. The mobile agent technology presents a new framework that enables the scientific computing community to develop applications that bring computation to raw data. It also lends itself to parallel and distributed computations, The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the feasibility of employing mobile agents for scientific and parallel computations as well as to present a parallel implementation of a fast Poisson solver using Aglets, a mobile agent technology developed by IBM Japan. The performance results of our implementation will also be reported.
