Pharmacokinetics and urinary excretion of cephaloridine in febrile crossbred calves

Plasma levels, pharmacokinetics, urinary excretion and dosage regimen of cephaloridine (10 mg/kg. iv) were determined in febrile crossbred calves. Fever was induced with single intravenous injection of E. coli endotoxin (1 mu g/kg). The elimination half-life and apparent volume of distribution were 3.77 +/- 0.50 hr and 0.97 +/- 0.16 litre/kg respectively: Approximately 49% of total administered dose of cephaloridine was excreted in urine with in 48 hr of administration. To maintain a minimum therapeutic plasma concentration of 1 mu g/ml, a satisfactory intravenous dosage regimen of cephaloridine in febrile calves would be 10 mg/kg followed by 9 mg/kg at 12 hr.
